Seder Meal

A GUIDE TO THE PASSOVER MEAL AT HOME

Jesus’s final week on earth was a busy one! It started with his entry into Jerusalem – hailed as a king! People were healed, there were times of prayer, discussions and confrontations took place, and several trials in front of religious leaders and Roman officials.
Then there was a cross.....and the week ended with an empty tomb! On the Thursday of Holy Week, Jesus sat down with his disciples for a Passover/Seder meal. It would be the last time that Jesus and his disciples shared a meal together. And the last time to be together under the Old Covenant and the old laws.
As you prepare to experience a Seder meal, please know that there is a rich history behind it. God commanded the Israelites to celebrate the Passover each year with a special meal. The meal and the elements of that meal were meant to be reminder, an oral history of God’s love for His people. Each element has significance and as you open your box, you should have the following:
Hard-boiled egg
Roasted Lamb
Candles
Cups
A bottle of grape juice to be split into the 4 cups
Matzah bread – 4 pieces
Parsley
Lettuce
Horse Radish sauce
Apple sauce

There is a video with a Rabbi that you can watch as a group. If you choose to let the video lead your family/group through the experience, you will need to make sure your group can see the video and follow along by stopping at certain points to sample the foods. The video is in 2 parts and should be about 45 minutes long. The other option is to use the script below. It will walk you through the meal and provide you
and your group with the scripture to read and the prayers that need to be said.
Enjoy your experience!
